Just as Denver will play a backup quarterback, Oakland will play a backup quarterback the entire game after starter Derek Carr broke his fibula on Sunday.
Carr was mic'd up for Saturday's game, and that footage has since been released. Carr's words were also clearly captured via a close-up by the CBS television cameras on replay after the injury, albeit without the benefit of audio, but it was a very easy lip-read to decipher. Denver's defense will go up against fourth-year quarterback Matt McGloin in Carr's absence.
On the ground, Raiders running back Napoleon McCallum had carried the ball just 37 times for 114 yards and three touchdowns in the six games prior to their Wildcard matchup against the Broncos. But Matt McGloin is all but certain to be the Raiders' starting quarterback for the rest of this season, barring his own significant injury. At 12-3 Oakland still has their eyes set on the No. 1 overall seed in the AFC. Latavius Murray, a 777-yard rusher this season, ran for 114 yards and three touchdowns in a 30-20 victory over the Broncos on November 6.
They will just have to do it with McGloin under centre instead of Carr.
Baylor WR KD Cannon announces he will enter National Football League draft
His quarterback benefited the most from his huge night as Zach Smith posted 375 yards and three scores in the win. He was held scoreless Tuesday, and finished with 46 yards rushing and 24 receiving in falling to the Bears.
Their last meaningless game came on January 2, 2011, in a 33-28 loss to the San Diego Chargers. He's rejuvenated the career of wide receiver Michael Crabtree, and led the Raiders to their first playoff berth since 2002. The victory knocked Denver out of the playoffs, but more importantly kept KC alive for a first round bye and the AFC West title. Siemian has played terribly of late and he was the QB when the Raiders dominated the Broncos in their meeting earlier this season. As far as playing, I'd like to sit here and say that we'll play everybody.
The Raiders went on to lose in the Divisional round to the Buffalo Bills, but they left their mark on the Broncos in the previous week.
"If the Raiders win Sunday, they get 13 days off to get McGloin prepared, and I like their chances in a home playoff game", Tournour said.
A lot of the players on the Denver squad are prideful players, and will not let egos or the fact that the Chiefs beat them twice in anyway sway them not to play with it all.
