As with N.W.A., the drama of just being in New Edition is part of the story's trainwreck/bootstrap appeal. Fronted by Tresvant (whose signature falsetto made him a standout vocalist) and Brown (who also sang lead on a number of New Edition's biggest hits), the group churned out catchy tunes about young love including "Cool It Now", "Popcorn Love" and "Candy Girl", which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard charts in 1983, beating out Michael Jackson's "Beat It". As their previous hits, Ricky holds down the singing and hook responsibilities, while Mike and Ronnie spit verses, and you'll probably notice that they've gotten better with their cadence and overall flow.
BET's most ambitious original production to date, The New Edition Story was a mammoth, intricate undertaking, and the more than a decade that executive producer Jesse Collins spent shepherding this labor of love to the screen was worth it. "It was as much pressure as we could put on them".
New Edition wasn't the first successful R&B group. "I wanted to be sure that I portrayed his passion and his struggle and the things that he went through in order to be in this group, the sacrifices". "But now is the time to peel the layer back", said Bivins. "I couldn't have played the way that Woody played me", Brown said.

"This movie is not about New Edition versus New Edition". That all six members of New Edition had a hand in the miniseries's genesis likely helped shape the nuanced depiction of the band's successes and stumbles; thanks to fine performances by the actors and New Edition's killer songs, though, "The New Edition Story" rises above the typical musical biopic.
Bryshere Gray: My favorite BBD song is "Poison", from New Edition it is "Can You Stand The Rain", and from Ralph Tresvant, "Sensitivity". That's why NE continue to sell out venues when they come to town.
