Trumpcare doesn't have the votes right now

"Congratulations to the #Resistance for win on Health Care", Ruffalo tweeted.

After meeting with Trump just moments before the AHCA was scheduled to be voted on by the House of Representatives, Paul Ryan's sad thumbs-up indicated a not-so-bright future for the health care bill. I will not sugarcoat this; this is a disappointing day for us.

Throughout the short campaign for the AHCA, also known as Trumpcare, Speaker Ryan and his lieutenants regularly referred to Ryan's "Better Way" plan, which outlines several healthcare reforms in the legislation including tax credits that would replace the Affordable Care Act's subsidies. We are still within 100 days and the news for Trump has generally not been good with the continued stories about ties to Russian Federation, conflicts of interest, Secret Service spending and the rest. "We'll never know because you never know how they vote", said President Donald Trump. There is a bloc of no votes that we had that is why this didn't pass.

Either way, the budget math and moderate opposition to ending ObamaCare's Medicaid expansion make the odds that Ryan's bill can eventually clear the Senate look extremely low.

Ryan specifically thanked Trump for his help throughout the process, pushing back against speculation that the bill's failure will divide the White House and House GOP leadership.

When asked if the vote will even be held on Thursday, as President Trump and Speaker Ryan have promised, Rep. Brat said, "I don't think so".

Some lawmakers in our region applauded the defeat including New York Senator Kirsten Gillibrand who panned the bill while visiting Plattsburgh. Ryan said he and the Trump administration "came very close, but we did not get that consensus".
