Bears insist they got their man in Trubisky

Bears general manager Ryan Pace met with the media late Thursday night at Halas Hall and discussed his excitement over the selection of quarterback Mitchell Trubisky in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft.

"I think I've had plenty of experience starting 13, playing in 30", he said of his UNC career, which also consisted of several key performances as a backup to Marquise Williams in his first two seasons."I've been around a lot of football". I'm going to stick to what I know and what I do and just continue to learn from the coaches and the rest of these players in the league. I showed I'm continually progressing and really I'm only just scratching the surface from this year. "It was an unreal moment and I can't wait to get started".

"The commissioner went to the stand and he said my name and I couldn't believe it", Trubisky said on a conference call with Bears reporters Thursday. "Mike Glennon is our starting quarterback", said Pace.

Trubisky talked to the Bears at the Combine and had one private workout for them.

"As an organization, we had conviction on this quarterback and his special attributes and we did what we had to do to get him. I'll go in there, work, compete and make this team better".

"It's going to be a huge learning process for me to pick up the offense, see what the other guys are doing and really try to pick up as many things as possible from the other quarterbacks to allow myself to be successful when I'm given the opportunity". "He's very athletic. He can extend the play".

Given where he was drafted, Trubisky knows that he will eventually be expected to become the Bears' franchise quarterback and he already understands what that role entails.

After working primarily out of the shotgun in college, Trubisky will have to transition to taking snaps from center with the Bears. On tape, Shaheen exhibits a concerning lack of change-of-direction skills and is ultimately a big, stiff, straight-line athlete making a colossal jump in competition, albeit with more-than-adequate tools. I don't think anyone wants to win more than I do. Either way, Trubisky said he's comfortable with whatever the Bears decide to do with him.
