Police shooting in traffic stop "clearly" murder

Opening statements are scheduled for Thursday, followed by testimony from the first witnesses in the retrial of Ray Tensing.

"He forgot and didn't use his training", she said.

The shooting was caught on the former officer's body camera, the footage from which contradicted his claims that DuBose drove off and dragged Tensing in an attempt to get away.

Potential jurors were asked Monday about their experiences with police and their views on topics, including the Ray Tensing case itself and the Black Lives Matter movement.

Efforts to seat a jury in Cincinnati are set to resume, with both sides now supporting a change of venue in the retrial of a white former police officer on murder charges in the fatal shooting of an unarmed black motorist during a 2015 traffic stop. A jury last November was unable to reach a verdict on either charge. But he asserted that DuBose used his left arm to pin Tensing's left arm against the car's windowsill and steering wheel.

Hamilton County Judge Leslie Ghiz (giz) said the jurors will be taken Wednesday to scene where Ray Tensing shot Sam DuBose in 2015.

Mathews said DuBose "wouldn't have ended up shot" if he had complied with Tensing's orders and hadn't attempted to flee. Ray Tensing, center, listens to the opening statement by his defense attorney Stewart Mathews during his retrial Thursday, June 8, 2017, at the Hamilton County Courthouse in Cincinnati.

The racial makeup of the retrial jury is not proportional to the demographics of Cincinnati's almost 297,000 residents, who are 49% white and 45% black.
