With a stockpile of young bats in the minors, the A's have recently called up top prospects Matt Olson, Franklin Barreto and Jaycob Brugman from Triple-A Nashville. He has hit safely in six of his last eight games and is 9-for-31 (.290) with three doubles, a homer and seven RBI.

"I started the season really well", Barreto said. "But I think everybody kind of looked around and said, 'Wow, I can't remember that ever happening before, '" A's manager Bob Melvin.

Brugman then hit a solo in the second off Shields.
