The brutal stabbing death of a MI man who was working in Chicago as a hairstylist was part of a sexual fantasy plotted in online discussions between a Northwestern University professor and an Oxford University staffer, prosecutors told a judge.

Fired Northwestern University microbiologist Wyndham Lathem and Oxford University financial officer Andrew Warren are accused in Cornell-Duranleau's death.

Detectives believe Lathem himself made that anonymous phone call, and further investigation found that witnesses in the apartment building had heard what sounded like a fight and screaming around 5 a.m. on July 27, Deenihan said. Autopsy results indicated that methamphetamine and a small amount of alcohol were found in his body.

But in reality, Trenton James Cornell-Duranleau, 26, was the only one to die.

"The victim's body had been stabbed several times.to the point of mutilation", Guglielmi said.

Appearing in a red jumpsuit and acknowledging his friends and family in a California courtroom about two weeks ago, the former professor did not say much during his initial court appearance.

According to prosecutors, the defendants had meant to kill one another - Mr. Warren was to shoot Mr. Lathem while he was stabbing Mr. Warren. By then, authorities said Lathem and Warren had fled the city. Lathem began stabbing the victim with a 6-inch drywall saw knife.

Osinbajo in Rwanda for Kagame's Swearing
Yemi Osinbajo has left Abuja for Kigali, the capital of Rwanda to attend the presidential inauguration of President Paul Kagame. Akande said Osinbajo would return to the country immediately after the inauguration on Friday.

"What I can tell you is it was not domestic in nature like a husband-wife, or boyfriend-boyfriend, or a love triangle; that was not the motive", Deenihan said at a news conference on Sunday, before the suspects appeared in court.

Lathem, 43, had been held in a California jail since turning himself in August 4 in California. "It was a little bit more dark and disturbing", Chicago police Detective Cmdr.

Chicago police were tipped off to Cornell-Duranleau's killing by a mysterious caller who warned of a possible crime taking place inside Lathem's residence, officials said.

In the video, prosecutors said Lathem claimed "he is not the person people thought he was", admitting that Cornell-Duranleau trusted him completely and that he had "betrayed that trust".

Lathem's attorney, Kenneth Wine, said earlier this month that the alleged crime is "totally contrary to the way (Lathem) has lived his entire life" and urged the ex-professor's supporters to "be patient".

The stab wounds to Cornell-Duranleau included 21 to the chest and abdomen, and 26 in the back, as well as multiple cuts on his hands. "No", Warren said. For the bond hearing, Warren relied on a public defender, who did not comment later.
