However, despite the large number of young people African Catholics, of whom the Church is proud, there are only a few initiatives aimed at addressing the ecological concerns that are led and directed by them. However, as John Paul II pointed out, the duty to promote and protect the environment is "everyone's responsibility". This realization was the modest start of the Catholic Youth Network for Environmental Sustainability in Africa (CYNESA). Inspired by John Paul II in the message of World Peace Day 1990, young Catholics from Kenya, Zimbabwe, Tanzania and South Africa, and on behalf of university chaplaincies and parish groups, came together to respond to this invitation. November 2011, religious communities around the world gathered under the banner, We Have Faith - now act for climate justice, to advocate for a fair and stable outcome of the climate change talks in Durban, South Africa . Young people from several African countries, joined by their colleagues in Europe, formed an important part of this initiative. In fact, many environmental movements in Africa are diffused by young people, driven by the harsh reality that Africa suffers greatly from the effects of climate change and environmental degradation.

This initiative takes advantage of social networks to shape this project. Thus, these young people have identified the mission of CYNESA as the platform through which young Catholics throughout Africa can offer a response to the double challenge of environmental degradation and climate change from the perspective of Catholic social morality. attention to the most vulnerable. The network aims to achieve this through:
