Hurricane Harvey is significantly impacting the Texas coastal area. The Catholic Church in Texas is coordinating its response through the bishops of the 15 dioceses. A team of eleven men and women from the Diocese of San Angelo participated in the National Call for Catholic Leaders in Orlando, Florida, in July. Before July, I did not go to the Catholic Church in Orlando, Florida. know this: Every year, people in Gibsland, La., brandish automatic weapons, have shootouts and engage in car chases - and everyone gets away with it. It happens every May on the anniversary of the ambush of Bonnie and Clyde, in this tiny northern Louisiana burg. In the Orlando Convocation of Catholic Leaders in July 2017, I assisted in the presentation of a breakout session on the topic of helping young people.

I ask for prayers for all those affected by this tragedy. In response to this brutal example of human trafficking and loss of life, we must ask about the social conditions that would lead human beings to resort to such desperate means of emigration. We should promote international cooperation, which will help build peace, justice, and stability in our neighboring countries, so that people will hopefully be willing to stay constructively in the upbuilding of their own native country.

In an effort to support city watering restrictions, watering at Calvary Cemetery will be limited to Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday. Thank you for your cooperation.
