McLindon added that he found the attorney general's comments about the toxicology report illuminating, and said that it perhaps helps explain why Sterling did not comply. CNN reported that the family views the behavior of both officers as characteristic of the culture of the Baton Rouge Police Department. "It is our goal to have a disciplinary hearing completed by this Friday". That same week, five police officers in Dallas were gunned down by a black man angry at police, and just days later, another gunman killed three officers in Baton Rouge.

Some fatal shootings still prompt widespread media attention, including the death earlier this month of Stephon Clark, an unarmed black man shot and killed by Sacramento police officers while in his grandmother's backyard.

"The system failed us", Sandra Sterling, his aunt, said during a news conference. McMillon is the mother of one of Sterling's children, Cameron.

Landry made the announcement of no charges against the officers at a news conference after meeting with family members of Sterling.

"You put a killer back on the streets", Sterling said, according to reports.

Castile, a school cafeteria worker and licensed gun owner, was fatally shot during a traffic stop by St. Anthony Police Officer Jeronimo Yanez, who said the victim was reaching for his gun.

It was "reasonable" to conclude Sterling was under the influence of drugs during the struggle with the officers "and that contributed to his non-compliance", Landry said.

The announcement comes almost two years after Sterling was shot and killed outside a convenience store in the Louisiana capital.

The Department of Justice said last spring that Salamoni put a gun to Stering's head when Sterling refused the officers' order to put his hands on the hood of a vehicle.

The Ryan Coogler-directed saga has also become one of seven movies ever to gross $600 million or more domestically. Presale tickets for that film are already selling at a higher rate than any superhero film ever.

Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry said Baton Rouge officers Blane Salamoni and Howie Lake had good reason to believe Sterling, 37, was armed with a gun and was continuously resisting arrest.

The officers were responding to a call about a man with a gun.

No charges will be filed against two Baton Rouge police officers in the 2016 shooting death of Alton Sterling after an investigation determined the officers' actions were "well-founded and reasonable", Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry said Tuesday.

"Justice will not be served until we end this epidemic of police violence against people of color once and for all", Jane Johnson, interim executive director of the ACLU of Louisiana, said in a statement calling on the police chief to fire the two officers, release video evidence and respect the rights of demonstrators to peacefully protest.

During a 10-month probe, Federal Bureau of Investigation agents and prosecutors reviewed images of the incident captured by body cameras, mobile phones and store surveillance cameras as well as witness accounts and other evidence.

"The people of this parish have been civil in their reaction to a long and frustrating process from federal and state authorities and now of course citizens of this parish have every right to peacefully and publicly protest", she said.

Attorneys for Sterling's family slammed what they called a biased decision - and urged the public to hold Landry accountable by voting him out of office.

The conclusions on Tuesday come after U.S. Attorney for the Middle District of Louisiana Corey Amundson, last year expressed publicly that after an "exhaustive, nearly year-long" federal investigation, they declined to pursue charges against either Salamoni or Lake II.
