Taliban militants stormed security checkpoints with guns and rockets in Larzanak locality, Shindand district late Thursday, killing 10 policemen, the report quoted district Governor Shukrullah Shaker as saying.

In a separate incident north of Kabul, a "sticky" bomb destroyed an oil tanker outside the Bagram military base, where USA forces are stationed.

Taliban insurgents overran a government headquarters in southeastern Afghanistan on Thursday, killing a district governor and at least six guards, officials said.

The center of Khwaja Omari district is 10kms far from Ghazni City and shares a border with Jaghato district of Wardak province.

The Taliban planted mines to prevent government reinforcements from going to help and quickly took responsibility for the attack.

"Thirty military personnel and civilians were killed".

Fighting went on for about three hours until fresh troops were deployed to the district and the Taliban escaped from the area. He said Taliban fighters had killed about 20 Afghan security force members.
