Trump told the NRA convention in Dallas on Friday that a "once very prestigious" London hospital was "like a war zone for disgusting stabbing wounds".

Speaking to the National Rifle Association (NRA) on Friday, Trump used his hands in a gesture to act out the shooting of the Paris victims, and said if civilians had been armed "it would have been a whole different story".

Maajid Nawaz says it was "grossly irresponsible" for the US President to draw comparisons between a London hospital and a war zone, as Trump mimics stabbing motions in a speech at the NRA.

And though he didn't mention any specific London hospitals by name, Trump did say that in some hospitals it's like a "war zone" from all of the knife attacks.

Surgeons have dismissed as "ridiculous" the apparent suggestion by Donald Trump that guns could help deal with violent crime in London. "They have knives and instead there's blood all over the floors of this hospital", Trump raved. They're getting used to that.

Last month, trauma surgeon Martin Griffiths told the BBC some of his colleagues had likened the Royal London Hospital in east London where he works to the former British military base Camp Bastion in Afghanistan.

Labour make gains but fail to capture target councils from Tories
The collapse of UKIP meant some gains for the Conservative Party, including Basildon and Peterborough. May's party could lose control of some of the eight London boroughs it now runs out of 32 in total.

"They took their time and gunned them down one by one".

He made no mention of gun-control proposals he tentatively floated in the past, such as raising the age limit for buying rifles.

"But sometimes we're going to have to be very tough and we're going to have to fight them".

The Second Amendment has never been under threat from Democrat politicians, the laws Republicans continue to block involve stopping loopholes allowing people to buy weapons from arms fairs and the Internet without background checks and age checks, as well as automatic weaponry more suited to warzones. "But they will never, ever be under siege as long as I'm your president", Trump told the cheering crowd. We have got enough nutcases running around with knives.

London political leaders and physicians condemned Trump's remarks and called any implication that guns would stem a troubling increase in knife violence outlandish. "Each country is free to decide its own legislation in regards to gun control" and "the statistics on victims of gun violence do not lead France to question its laws in this matter".
