Amazon Fire TV Cube also uses far-field voice recognition with eight microphones to ensure Alexa clearly hears requests from across a room.

The latest addition to Amazon's Fire TV lineup is also the latest expansion of its Alexa voice assistant. You can tell it to raise or lower the volume or even switch the TV on from standby. There are also apps available in the USA for ESPN, Fox Now, Showtime, Starz, PlayStation Vue, CBS All Access, and NBC.

TV owners have all experienced this moment: Right when you're about to watch something, the remote control seems to have evaporated.

Fire TV Cube comes with an array of eight microphones - one more than the second-generation Echo speaker released previous year - giving the device the ability to hear commands spoken from across a room.

'And, it's just the beginning.

Alexa for couch potatoes is coming: Amazon's new streaming TV device will let users shout out when they want to turn on the TV, flip channels or search for sitcoms - all without pushing any buttons. Amazon says the device is compatible with set-top boxes built by the likes of Comcast, Dish and DirecTV, covering more than 90 percent of households that pay for cable or satellite TV subscriptions.

The device, available starting on June 21, is a 4K Ultra H, Alexa-powered streaming media player that can control a TV from across the room.

"Tens of millions of customers around the world are already using Alexa, and today we're excited to introduce Alexa to our customers in France", Jorrit Van der Meulen, vicepresident of Amazon Devices International, said in a statement. The visual aspects are rich in detail all thanks to the optimizations made for Alexa. After the deadline, the product will be available for $119.99.

As we mentioned above, there's no word yet on a United Kingdom release, but with a USA release planned for June 21st at a price of $120, we'd be surprised if the device didn't cross the Atlantic sooner or later. For a limited time, Amazon is bundling it with the Amazon Cloud Cam, the company's cloud-connected security system, for $199, and is extending $10 in Prime Video credit to customers who order by July 1.
