Despite no longer being a tropical storm, gusty winds and heavy rain will be possible in Puerto Rico Monday and near The Bahamas by Tuesday. Some 8,600 customers were left without water.

The Category 5 hurricane caused more than an estimated $100 billion in damage, killed dozens of people by the most conservative estimates and destroyed up to 75 percent of Puerto Rico's electricity transmission lines. Although this storm will not make a USA landfall, it will be close enough to the Outer Banks and the Mid Atlantic to produce more rip currents.

The National Weather Service warned of thunderstorms in addition to rainfall and strong winds, and residents in San Juan, Trujillo Alto, Loiza, Carolina, Canovanas, Guaynabo, Bayamon, Cataño were issued a flash flood warning lasting until 4:45 p.m.

Puerto Rico also suffered widespread damage from Hurricane Maria, and Gov. Ricardo Rossello had anxious the island could experience power outages if Beryl arrived as a tropical storm as originally forecast. But, the remnants are still being monitored by the Nation Hurricane Center.

"It was a rather active day", he said.

Chris is forecast to remain well offshore and before approaching the Canadian maritimes.

"You worry, because you think about everything you've lost", he said.

China responded by threatening tariffs on $50 billion worth of U.S. exports to China, mostly aimed at agricultural goods. If Trump followed through on both threats, almost all of China's exports to the USA would be subject to tariffs.

Chris is the third tropical system of the 2018 Atlantic hurricane season.

This, as the system degenerated on Sunday. A landslide was reported in the town of Naranjito in northern Puerto Rico, but no injuries have been reported, the AP also said.

Tropical Storm Beryl was downgraded to a remnant low pressure system, the National Hurricane Center said, as it is expected to pass just south of Puerto Rico today.

"Definitely, we were spared the worst", he said.

As of the 11AM advisory from the National Hurricane Center, Chris has maximum sustained winds of 60 miles per hour. with a central pressure of 999 mb.

The NHC said in its advisory that surf swells were expected to increase and affect parts of the coasts of North Carolina and the mid-Atlantic states in the next few days, with the potential of creating life-threatening conditions.
